Head Mac cheese Steve Jobs yanked the tarp off a number of new goodies from everyone's favorite gadget company. In addition to iOS software updates and a new Apple TV, Jobs unveiled a completely redesigned lines of iPods, putting a clickwheel back into the iPod Shuffle; giving the iPod nano (pictured) a tiny touchscreen; and upgrading the iPod touch to give it many of the capabilities of the new iPhone, including a front camera so it can use FaceTime. One of the biggest new developments came as part of the new iTunes 10—it's a big social-networking feature called "Ping," and it suspiciously looks and works a lot like Facebook: You can use it to follow friends to see what they're listening to and hear 30-second previews of any tracks they've recommended, read reviews they've posted and see photos they've uploaded, plus see charts of the most-downloaded songs and albums from the people you follow, as well as local concert listings with a one-click link to buy tickets from Live Nation. Artists can also get on board, posting status updates and photos that fans can comment on. Apparently, this whole social-networking thing is pretty big... Follow us on www.Twitter.com/rappages |
